Probably best known in America for Chet Baker's marvelous free-jazz score (rivalling Miles Davis's for "Ascenseur pour l'echafaud"), this is a cheaply made but enjoyably atmospheric and idiosyncratic crime movie. A couple of Parisian drug gangs (one led by a blind, philosophical, trumpet-playing boss) are battling over turf, leading to kidnappings, beatings, murders, betrayals and other intrigues. And this being a José Benazeraf film, there are timeouts for stolen lust, striptease and a great cat fight.

There does appear to be a version released by Bob Cresse which is dubbed and had 15 minutes cut from it. It is that version which was re-titled Night of Lust. These screenshots from the original French version.  V&D

Three teenagers find a briefcase with a beat-up old can in it. They throw away the can and pawn the suitcase. When they read in the papers that the can was full of uncut heroin and belonged to a drug dealer who killed two narcotics agents in a shootout, they go back to look for the can, find it, and decide to go into the heroin selling business. However, the drug dealer's gang also wants the heroin, finds out the boys have it, and sets out to hunt them down and get back their dope. (IMDB frankfob2) V&D

The plot revolves around a hockey-masked serial-rapist who spouts of silly one-liners and makes his victims sing "Jingle Bells" as he bones them. A group of victims that all meet up to try to ID the rapist at a police line-up decide that the cops aren't taking a serious enough interest in their case, and decide to start a women's group to support and help rape victims. Along the way, hockey-mask surveils the women and in their attempts to try to smoke him out - Mr. Rapist devises his own plan to trap the "Rape Squad" so he can have a final bit of fun with them all collectively...
